【New Product】Colloidal Sulfur—A perfect combination of natural minerals and modern technology to solve your skin problems
The global acne skincare market size was approximately US\$30.4 billion (approximately RMB 218.4 billion) in 2024, and is projected to reach US\$37.7 billion in 2031 (CAGR 3.1%). By product type: creams (40%) and lotions (30%) dominate the market, with acne patches showing the fastest growth (32.9% sales growth in 2023). Regional landscape: North America accounts for 35% (the largest market), with Asia-Pacific showing the fastest growth (CAGR 9.5%).
The market size in 2023 was RMB 86.4 billion, with a CAGR of 7.3% from 2017 to 2023. It is expected to exceed RMB 95 billion in 2025. It accounts for approximately 40% of the global market share, and is expected to further increase by 2031.
High prevalence of acne: The prevalence of acne in China is 8.1%, with nearly 9.4% of the global population affected, with 85% being adolescents.
Increased consumer awareness: Searches for "acne treatment" on Douyin increased by 404% year-on-year, and related topics on Xiaohongshu have over 1.15 billion views.
Increased demand for adult acne treatment: The 20-40 age group has become the new consumer force, driving market expansion.
Consumer demand has shifted from single acne treatment to a comprehensive function of "acne treatment + repair + prevention," with 31.6% of consumers requiring products with oil control efficacy. In addition to quickly and effectively solving acne problems, consumers also pursue safety and mildness.
Natural sulfur particles are large and easily precipitate in products; they have less contact area with the solution and are difficult to reach an effective concentration. Colloidal sulfur (Colloidal Sulfur), molecular formula S₈, is a dispersion of natural sulfur microparticles.
Natural polysaccharide encapsulation technology
Natural polysaccharide encapsulation, sustained-release enhancement, makes the medicinal properties milder. Dispersion efficiency is 3 times higher than ordinary sulfur, and Acacia Senegal Gum forms a negatively charged protective layer to prevent sulfur particle aggregation.
pH-responsive release mechanism
Sustained release of active sulfur molecules in the weakly acidic environment (pH 5.5) of hair follicles, making it gentler and prolonging the duration of action.
Multi-target mechanism of action
Penetration phase Colloidal sulfur particles, due to their particle size advantage, can smoothly pass through the hair follicle opening and penetrate into the sebaceous gland unit, laying the foundation for the subsequent release of active ingredients.
Antibacterial phase Active sulfur molecules are slowly released in the hair follicle environment, effectively destroying the biofilm structure of Propionibacterium acnes and inhibiting bacterial reproduction from the source.
Regulation phase Active sulfur molecules can effectively inhibit lipase activity, reduce the production of free fatty acids, thereby reducing hair follicle inflammation and improving the acne microenvironment.
Repair phase By downregulating the levels of inflammatory factors IL-6 and TNF-α, it significantly reduces the area of erythema, improves skin barrier function, and promotes post-acne repair.
Efficacy
From August 1, 2022 to November 20, 2022, 120 patients with ordinary acne inflammatory papules were recruited from the dermatology outpatient department of Luohu District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Shenzhen as research subjects, and were randomly divided into a control group (5% benzoyl peroxide gel, 59 cases) and an observation group (colloidal sulfur emulsion, 61 cases). Both groups used the drugs continuously for 28 days, and follow-up visits were conducted at weeks 1, 2, 3, and 4 after drug administration. The anti-acne test results of colloidal sulfur emulsion were not significantly different from those of benzoyl peroxide gel. The specific results are shown in the figure:
A 13-year-old Asian boy used 5% benzoyl peroxide (BPO) combined with 1% clindamycin gel to treat acne for 1 year without significant effect (as shown in the figure). After switching to Sodium Sulfacetamide 10%-Sulfur 5%, there was significant improvement.
