Originally found in the seeds and leaves of plants, ferulic acid is a phenolic acid widely found in plants, bound to polysaccharides and proteins in the cell wall as the backbone of the cell wall, and rarely in the free form.
It is found in high levels in Chinese herbs such as ferula, asclepias, angelica, and sour dates, and is one of the important active ingredients in these. Ferulic acid is present in edible plants such as onion and yellow chrysanthemum, and is also present in high levels in food materials such as grain hulls, coffee, wheat bran, rice bran, and bagasse and beet meal.
